One of Australia’s Best Pies Arrives In Melbourne’s Prahran Market

Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies Brings Its Award Winning Recipes From Regional Victoria To Prahran Market

One of Australia’s best pie has landed in Prahran Market, with the opening of Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies, the award-winning family-run business from regional Victoria.

Born out of lockdown in 2019, life-partners and friends, Rachel & Ken Little and Nicky & Jim Myers, recognised a need for restaurant quality meals in their home town of Wodonga, and Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies was born. The team set out to build a state-of-the-art kitchen in north-east Victoria and collaborated with some of the region’s best chefs, creating jobs for hospitality workers in the height of the pandemic and their now highly-coveted and award-winning secret recipes, using top-quality produce, sustainable ingredients and no preservatives or seed oils.

Two years later, The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition named Miss Amelie Chinese BBQ Pork Belly Pie the best gourmet pie in Australia, and between the 2021 and 2022 competitions it was awarded an additional 14 silver and gold medals.

To celebrate its big city debut, Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies is launching two new pies at Prahran, available exclusively at the market. The Good Gut Pie is a gut-friendly and gluten-free creation of chargrilled asparagus and leeks sautéed in garlic and onion, dates, goat cheese, with a pistachio and turmeric cream base. For a full immunity boost, probiotics of sauerkraut and ginger kombucha will add to the good live gut microbiome. TheThai Red Chicken Curry Pie is another hot commodity on offer, with succulent pieces of chicken in a rich red Thai sauce, encased in Miss Amelie signature case of flaky, buttery pastry.

Other best-selling pies on the Prahran Market menu include:

Lamb Shank with Garlic & Rosemary

Cauliflower Triple Cheese

Scallop and Salmon

Prawn and Scallop

Chicken, Leek and Pancetta

Beef Cheeks and Red Wine Jus

What started out as a gourmet delivery service shipping out pies, pastries and cakes during Covid, quickly gained a legion of fans, and before long the concept expanded to Albury and Beechworth. After years of encouragement from city dwellers making the pilgrimage to get their hands on one of their nationally renowned pies, the team decided to set up shop in Melbourne, choosing the iconic Prahran Market as their home.

“There are few places in Melbourne more iconic than Prahran Market, and we are so thrilled it will be the home of our first space in Melbourne,” say the Little and the Myers families. “Our business has been built on a foundation of serving our community, and we know at its heart Prahran Market and its stallholders share that same ethos. We can’t wait to share our passion for pies with this amazing city, in this historic location.”
