From school lunchboxes to cheeky cocktails - there’s a new drink in Australia giving chocolate milk a very modern makeover.

Baba’s Milk, the cult-favourite chocolate milk that sold out its first run (and even earned a glowing review from shock jock Kyle Sandilands, who called it “the greatest”), is quickly becoming Australia’s new nostalgic obsession.

But the story behind the drink is as sweet as the product itself.

Lepa Flaiban, a proud Serbian-Australian chef and food entrepreneur, grew up making traditional Balkan meals in the family kitchen with her Mum and Baba (Baba means grandmother in Serbian). Food was more than nourishment — it was how stories were passed down, culture was preserved, and love was expressed.

After losing her father and reassessing what truly brought her joy, Lepa stepped away from her previous career and took a leap — purchasing a food truck during the pandemic and launching Burek on Wheels, serving handmade Balkan dishes that reminded her customers of home.

But she couldn’t stop thinking about one particular childhood staple: the chocolate milk she used to drink as a kid.

“I wanted to create something nostalgic but cool,” says Lepa. “Creamy, not too sweet, no nasties -  just something that tastes like home, but convenient at the same time as let’s face it, a lot of us are always on the run”

And in a beautiful full-circle moment, the image of her own mother (aka Baba) now proudly features on every can.

What started as a side product quickly went viral. Baba’s Milk gained a cult following quickly, with her first batch of cans selling out. Now, it's launching nationwide — available online and in selected stores across NSW, Queensland, Perth and Melbourne.

Packaged in a sleek milk-in-a-can format, Baba’s Milk is made for modern life. It’s already proving a hit with:

• Parents packing lunchboxes (it’s gluten-free and made without additives, preservatives or artificial colours)
• Snackers and desk-side treat lovers
• Foodies and cocktail enthusiasts using it in affogatos, espresso martinis and dessert drinks

It is expected that the brand will welcome a Strawberry flavour shortly – due to hit the shelves in October 2025.
